Back Again

Merry Meet,

I am back again after an unfortunately long hiatus. I was dealing with some issues with my personal life, including a death in the family. Finally I can happily say that my life is back on track and I can resume maintaining my blog.

Thank you for keeping with me for so long,
Blessed Be,

NaNoWriMo

Merry Meet,

This is just a quick update to let everyone know what is going on at the moment. On the first of November a friend told me about this thing called NaNoWriMo. I was like, what that sounds crazy? But then it was all explained to me. NaNoWriMo stands for National Novel Writing Month. Do not worry about the national part, they say on the website that it is actually international but InNoWriMo did not sound as cool. The goal of this is to write 50,000 words in one month. I know that that sounds crazy too but it is not actually that much. The website where you can upload your word count to calculates your statistics and unless you write more than average, the average you need per day to complete it is 1667 words. See that is much more manageable, you just need to take things in bite sized chunks.  I had life things going on so I could only start late but hopefully I shall catch up soon. I am having a lot of fun writing.
The whole thing is kind of like a challenge, not really a competition. You see at the end of the month, or from November 25th you can start uploading your text to their automated word checker and if it verifies that you have 50,000 words or more then you can get a certificate. Obviously it is possible that you just type “word” 50,000 times and then upload that… but then if you show someone the certificate and they ask if they can read your story, you are going to be at a bit of a loss. So the challenge is there and it is aimed at helping ordinary people, aka not necessarily profession writers, at getting the motivation to actually write a book. I personally know so many people who say that one day they want to write a book, but I have never gotten to read even a chapter of this book. NaNoWriMo is also not aimed at helping people write a finished book, it is more about getting your rough draft down. December is the month for editing, or the following months. This is just about trying to churn out as much of the novel which is living inside of you as possible. Perfection is not key. No one has to read your novel at all if you do not want them too.

Soooo that is what I have been up to lately, and what I shall be focusing on until the end of November. After that I have a few exciting things to show on this blog. Until then keep writing!

Blessed Be

Life Update

Merry Meet,

I am sorry that I have been AWOL for so long. As usual my studies have been catching up to me.

But something else has happened too which is not “as usual”. The universe has sent me a darling friend. She came at just the right time too. I had to leave my previous pet at my mother’s house when I moved out and it has been really difficult for me. My significant other has also been working very hard and so he is hardly at home at all, even on the weekends. I was so sad about this and I had been visiting my mother a lot because I was so very lonely…. and then! My S.O. phoned me and at first I thought that it was a joke but it was not! He found a a stray/abandoned kitten. About four or five weeks old. Sitting in the middle of a road crying from hunger. She was covered in fleas, she had worms and she was very malnourished. So we decided to take her in. And she has been such a good companion for me.

She is sitting on my lap dozing as I type. She is now about  seven or eight weeks old now. She is going to go for her inoculations/vaccinations next week.

Here is a picture of my Darling.

I really feel like she and I were meant to be friends. Have you ever had this sort of experience before?

August Full Moon

Merry Meet,

(Just for clarity’s sake I want to remind readers that a couple of my posts are posted on schedule because I do not always have time to do posts. For instance this post is written in August.)

So for me writing now the full moon of August was only a few days ago… the 21st of August. I had an amazing full moon! It has been very cold and wintery lately indeed. On the night of the full moon I had both my curtains open so that I could see the moon nicely and it was such a lovely sight to see. Unfortunately when I tried to take a photo (with my not very fancy phone) I did not get a good shot.

Hopefully you can sort of get the idea. When ever the moon popped her face out it was partly obscured by dark clouds and it had such a lovely eery atmosphere to it. At time the moon looked like the scene from a “scary” movie. It was really beautiful.

My Goddess Tree

Merry Meet,

Today I want to tell you about a tree near to where I live. I think of it as my Goddess tree. One evening as I glanced out of my window the moon shone in such a was as to illuminate an image on the tree for me. Do you ever look at things around you and see something more if them? The shape of a cloud for example. I saw a woman in/on this tree and so now she is my Goddess tree.

Can you see her?
I know that my Paint outlining is not very good but you can probably see the general idea.

Has anyone else also experienced something where they can associate their deity with a particular place or thing in nature, or maybe not even in nature?

Imbolc Celebration

imbolc_05

This is a very belated Imbolc post. As I said in my previous post, although I do not always get time to blog I do try hard to find time to observe the sacred days.

I was not at home on the day but I went around my surroundings taking photos of “the first signs of spring”. Considering the sunny weather that we were having at the time most of the plants were convinced that we were well into spring. I found some information that talks about Imbolc being a time for divining the weather.

Today, this holiday is chiefly connected to weather lore. Even our American folk calendar keeps the tradition of “Groundhog Day”, a day to predict the coming weather, telling us that if the groundhog sees his shadow, there will be “six more weeks” of bad weather (i.e., until the next Old Holiday, Lady Day). This custom is ancient. An old British rhyme tells us that “if Candlemas Day be bright and clear, there’ll be two winters in the year”. Actually, all of the cross-quarter days can be used as inverse weather predictors, whereas the quarter days are used as direct weather predictors. – witchessabbats.com

Although I myself do not usually place much faith in practices such as weather divining I thought that it was a fun idea… and true to the lore, Imbolc being a lovely sunny warm day… we are now having some more winter. Lots of hard driving rain and the temperatures are down to about 10 degrees centigrade again!

I also did some gardening on the day. I had been sprouting some beans for about a week before hand and so I chose Imbolc to plant them. My garden is being renovated and so I can’t plant things directly into the ground at the moment, that is why you see everything in pots and tins. The rustic look of the tins is actually beginning to grow on me. I have the beans and the an onion which sprouted in my kitchen, two ferns and two slips of jasmine. I really hope that the jasmine takes root! I steal my slips and cuttings from my mother’s already very established garden. 🙂

I hope that everyone had a wonderful Imbolc!
